Global Sevilla School held a parenting seminar Love & Legacy with Dr. Asheena Baez at the Pulo Mas campus, East Jakarta, Thursday (22/10). As part of the school's 24th anniversary celebration, this activity invites parents to recognize their children's strengths and accompany them to grow independently, resilient, and responsible. Through discussions and practical exercises, participants learn to manage emotions, build communication, and provide space for children to face challenges.
Andrew J. Jules Soebali, Chairman of the Budi Pekerti Luhur Foundation, explained that this activity was based on the mission of the Global Sevilla School to form globally minded students with character. According to him, parents, teachers, and students are the three pillars that need to support each other so that education at school can continue at home.
This seminar was also attended by a number of public figures who are also parents of Global Sevilla School students, including musician and actor Ibrahim Imran or known as Baim together with the artist and 2004 Indonesian Princess Artika Sari Devi, as well as actor Rionaldo Stokhorst together with Aurelo Schulz. Their presence completes the togetherness of parents in learning how to recognize the strength of children and accompany their growth and development.
"For us, the success of children is also seen from the character they build, how they appreciate differences, care for others, and find their life's calling. Therefore, parents, teachers, and students need to walk together. Through Love & Legacy, we want to expand this learning opportunity to the Global Sevilla School family and the general public," said Andrew Soebali.
In the seminar, Dr. Asheena Baez introduced the strengths-based parenting approach, which is parenting based on the identification and development of children's strengths. He explained that the busy and daily demands can make parents pay more attention to the shortcomings or immediately take over the child's problems. This approach invites parents to recognize the abilities that children already have and help them use these abilities to face difficulties.
"The first step is to stop for a moment and pay attention to one's own state without judging. When parents can understand their emotions and be fully present, they have the space to listen and respond better to children. The greatest legacy we can give is the love that children feel through their relationship with us," said Dr. Asheena Baez.
Participants are invited to understand the Thermometer-to-Thermostat framework, which explains how parental responses can help build a calmer atmosphere at home. Through the concept of scaffolded struggle, parents also learn to provide support gradually while giving children the opportunity to try and solve their own problems. This learning is poured into the Family Connection & Leadership Blueprint, in the form of a plan to be implemented in the daily lives of families. Dr. Asheena Baez is an educator, leadership and wellbeing expert, CEO Asheena Baez Consulting LLC, and Adjunct Professor at Columbia University.
Andrew Soebali also conveyed that the collaboration between Global Sevilla School and Dr. Asheena Baez had been running for about three years, including through learning for school staff and management. This seminar is an opportunity to bring this experience to more parents. Starting with an executive breakfast, Love & Legacy completes the series of celebrations for Global Sevilla School's 24th anniversary. Previously, the school held a Mindfulness Week on October 6-9, 2026, which included mindful walking, sharing kindness activities, and mindfulness practices through daily activities and school environmental care. The activities also presented a parent seminar "Understanding Our Family through a Systemic Lens", then closed with a mindfulness assessment for students and activities with parents.
